About T.O.

Welcome to the Art and Sole of Boot Making. Over 40 years ago the true art of fine boot making became a challenge to me that evolved over the years into a passion. Every pair of boots we make is the derivative and a tribute to the old masters. They gave their time, patience, and shared their knowledge with me, much of which had been handed down to them. Please enjoy and take “Bickmore” care of your T. O. Stanley boots. They have been made with love.

T.O. Stanley

T.O.’s mom told him he was born a cowboy, and his mom bought him his first hand made pair of boots in Lubbock, Texas when he was 7 years old. His dad, Neal Stanley, owned a funeral home in Tahoka, TX south of Lubbock. Neal was killed in a car accident and buried on Easter Sunday when T.O. was 8 years old. At age 15, T.O. had just won the bullriding event in Deming, NM (the year the arena burned down). From there, he was offered a job on the ranch. He started living on and working for the Lazy J/Half Halter Brand/Morgan Ranch in Big Spring, Texas, and by the time he left the ranch, Mr. Morgan said T.O. was a real cowboy and had ridden a horse more miles than most people drive their pickups! Boots are truly an essential part of a cowboy’s world. He would have continued a cowboy life on the ranch after the Air Force, but Mr. Morgan told him he was in for bigger and better things.

In 1963 he proceeded to buy his first boot company, The Rios Boot Company in Mercedes, TX which was established in 1853 and actually made boots for Maximillian of Mexico. This makes Rios the oldest bootmaker in the United States. Life on a ranch and and a Fine Arts education gave T.O. the edge. He knows what works and what looks good! T.O. creates boots that are simply timeless!

Craftsmanship, skill, leather knowledge, and pride are just a few of the unparalleled aspects of T.O. Stanley boots. Integrity is the one word T.O. may value the most. He refuses to compromise quality over price. 19th century writer and social thinker, John Ruskin said, “There is hardly anything in the world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price only are this man’s lawful prey.” T.O. Stanley is not that man. Every T.O. Stanley customer expects quality and is looking for the best, and that’s what they get! T.O. will take the time to explain the intricacies of your boots and why they are “a step up” from all others! When you’re wearing a pair of T.O. Stanley boots, YOU know it, and others notice too!
